Wife has been my main title for 39 years …Mommy right behind it for 35 years. It has been difficult to keep the proper balance between the two roles. I guess my advice is to do the best you can, and if you make some mistakes along the way, to look forward and not backward.
We recently have had one of our daughters and her husband and 2 yr old living with us..until they found a home to buy. It took 7 months. We were happy to help them, but were happy at the prospect of having our “alone” time again. WELL…we had one day, and we are now babysitting for 4 grandchildren for 4 days…which will give that daughter and husband a well-deserved break. I am happy to do that, because when our children were small, we never took the time to have that time for ourselves..seemed we always had the kids with us, everywhere, 24/7.
My husband describes the state of being without children at home as being able to walk around in his underwear, and he warns everyone to knock loudly before entering! Honey, I promise, for better or worse, that the day of underwear will be here soon! Everyone else BEWARE!
